On Sunday (4th August) at 12.12 pm (BST) we have the New Moon in courageous Leo. Following the New Moon in Cancer when we (hopefully) set our goals for the rest of the year, the Leo New Moon comes along to keep us excited about them. This week’s blog will look at the energy around this New Moon and how you can work with it.

New Moons mark the start of a new lunar cycle. This is a time to set our intentions for the next 4 weeks, which will help us to achieve our goals. Generally, anything started under a New Moon should be completed by the Full Moon in the same sign. This gives us a 6-month container to work with. (The Full Moon in Leo is on the 12th of February) When making New Moon Wishes, you can go as big or as small as you like. If you make a big wish, you can break it down into smaller, manageable goals. This allows you to track your progress as we move through each lunar cycle.

Not all New Moon’s are the same. They are flavoured by the zodiac sign that the Moon is in at the time and influenced by the other planets. A New Moon is always in the same sign as the Sun, giving us a double dose of the sign's energy to work with. This is why people work with this energy to set their goals.

Leo is one of the four fixed signs, which follow the cardinal signs and fix in place the things we have started. These are the most stubborn and devoted signs which make them ideal for focusing on the goals set under the cardinal Moons. Leo has themes around determination, courage and leadership, making it the ideal New Moon to take the lead in your own life and go after what you want.

As one of the three Fire element signs, Leo is self-assured, enthusiastic, big-hearted, warm and loving. The fire signs are the most action-orientated and passionate. This can make Leo demanding and bossy. This is the sign of the zodiac that likes to show off, but they also like to shine a light on other people. This New Moon is a good time to start creative projects and friendships. Let your hair down and have more fun. Express yourself and open your heart.

When setting your Leo New Moon intentions, we can use the themes and energy of this sign to help us. Here are some questions you can ask yourself to get the most from this energy.

  1. What are my intentions for this lunar cycle?

  2. How can I express my creativity?

  3. Where do I need to take the lead?

  4. Where do I need to be more confident?

  5. How can I be more generous and helpful?

  6. What brings me joy?

There are also some practical ways to work with this New Moon. Leo is associated with friendship, social activities, games and fun making this an ideal time to arrange a social event and add more fun into your life. As a generous energy, where can you be more generous with your time? Could you support a friend or family member? This is also a good tme to get organised and to be the leader in your life.

This New Moon is harmonising with Mars which is currently in Gemini. Mars is the planet of drive and determination, while Gemini is the sign of communication, ideas and knowledge. With Mars in Gemini comes a fierce desire to communicate, share information, learn new things and possibly invade others privacy. Not only will we be able to come up with brilliant ideas, but we will also be able to take action on them. This makes the Leo New Moon a great time for getting things done and completing projects. It’s also a good New Moon to spice things up in the bedroom.

This New Moon will also be clashing with Jupiter, which is currently in Pisces. Jupiter is associated with growth, abundance and good luck. Pisces is the sign of spirituality, dreams and intuition and is ruled by Jupiter. This transit will connect us to something bigger than ourselves, encouraging us to connect more deeply with ourselves and our inner knowledge.

Jupiter brings more. These could be good things but also too much of the good things. Are you over or under-indulging? This New Moon will be a time to wish big but something you can believe in. Self-doubt is the biggest killer of dreams.
