It’s been a while since I wrote a blog post that focused solely on a specific lunation, so I thought this week I would dive into the upcoming New Moon on Monday 17th July at 7.31pm. This will take place in the home and family sign of Cancer.

This New Moon is going to be talking with both Neptune and Pluto, which are both currently in retrograde. You might find that something doesn’t quite feel right, but you aren’t sure what. This could also be when ideas are forming inside you, or you feel like you have too many ideas. You don’t know where to start and the whole thing is just overwhelming. If you do feel like you are being pulled in a million different directions, then take a moment to just breathe. What is that core desire inside you? The one that is unchanging? Focus on that.

Each New Moon marks the start of a new 4-week lunar cycle. On the New Moon, we look at our dreams and our goals, and we set New Moon Wishes and Intentions to help us manifest those dreams and goals. You should set aside some time, within 8 hours of the New Moon is best, to focus on what you want to achieve over the next 4 weeks. The energy of the New Moon lasts for 3 days, so you have plenty of time to set your intentions.

Cancer is a cardinal sign and marks the astrological start of Summer. Cardinal signs are the most goal-oriented. As we are now halfway through the year, this makes the Cancer New Moon an ideal time to check in with your goals, update them and set new ones.

How have you been getting on with the goals you set yourself at the start of the year? Are you still working on them? Or have you allowed yourself to get distracted by other things along the way? The New Moon in Cancer is your opportunity to recommit to those goals.

Cancer is a water sign, the realm of emotions. Water signs feel very powerful emotions. When setting goals, listen to your heart. What is it that you truly desire? What is that one thing that you dream about? When we wish from the heart and feel all those powerful emotions, our wishes are more powerful and manifest in our lives.

Cancer energy is compassionate, tender and intuitive. They are loyal, thoughtful and protective. This is the perfect energy for setting goals around your health and self-care, setting the intention to be more compassionate and spending time with those you love.

Cancer is the mother of the zodiac. There is a protective and nurturing energy. This is the ideal New Moon for looking at how you look after yourself as well as others. Do you tend to put your needs last? Do you give more than you receive? How is your overall health? If you are wanting to start a new healthy eating plan, this is the New Moon to do it.

As the sign of home and family, who loves food, this is also a good New Moon for a family gathering. We just had the Summer Solstice at the end of last month, so why not invite friends and family over for a BBQ? Catch up with the people who matter the most to you that you might not see very often.

This New Moon is a time for looking at what makes you feel safe and secure? What can you do to improve these feelings? Setting goals and intentions around this is a great way to work with the Cancer New Moon energy. Remember to be kind to yourself and to wish from your heart.

The New Moon in Cancer is the perfect time to set goals and intentions around nurturing yourself. Too often as women, we are taught to put others before ourselves. You have to be the best mum, the best wife, the best employer and employee. You must have a clean and tidy home, well-behaved children, and work hard in your career. Let’s be honest, the expectations placed on women by society are A LOT!!

So I challenge you this New Moon to put yourself first. Do something that makes you happy. Treat yourself. Think about the ways you can show yourself more compassion. Set the intention to eat one healthy meal a week and work from there. Start a new self-care routine and put yourself first. Remember that by filling up your own cup first, you are better prepared to help others.
