What is energy?

If you have been reading my stuff for a while you will have noticed that I use the word “energy” a lot, and you might be thinking, “What are you talking about Sam?” So in this week’s blog post, I’m going to explain the different types of energy that I talk about and how you can work with them in your daily life.

Collective Energy

This is very broad and essentially covers the astrology at the time which is generally felt by everyone. It can also be influenced by current events. Towards the end of last year and the start of this year, we had Mars, the planet of drive and determination in retrograde. This means that from our vantage point on Earth, Mars appeared to be travelling backwards. During this time, the collective energy was a lot slower. Think of it as your get up and go, had got up and gone!!

If we look at current events, then we have the current energy and cost of living “crisis”. The news headlines at the start of the year were full of scary titles and stories of people who were having to choose between eating and heating. Now it’s more about how expensive food items have got. This is of course going to have an effect on the collective energy, especially if there is a lot of fear about.

Each planet has a different effect on the collective energy and as they move through the sky at various speeds they also talk to each other, creating further influences. As the planets do their dance in the sky, they can also “trigger” things in our own unique birth charts, so you might feel the energy in a different or more intense way.

As the Sun moves through each of the signs of the zodiac, it shifts our focus. Currently, the Sun is in Gemini which has a scattered and restless vibe. You may feel like you want to do lots of different things or have found yourself lost in a research rabbit hole.

When the Sun moves into Cancer on the Summer Solstice on the 21st of June, the focus and energy will change as this is the sign of home and family and has a more gentle and caring energy.

Moon Energy

Just as the Moon reflects the light of the Sun, the Moon also reflects our inner world and our emotions. While it takes the Sun 12 months to travel through all 12 signs of the zodiac, it takes the Moon just 28 days. As the Moon moves through the zodiac, she takes on the traits of each sign, so an Aries Moon Day can feel like a totally different energy from a Cancer Moon Day.

The energy of the Moon is felt by everyone, some people may just be more aware of it than others. Again, while the moon is moving through the zodiac, she is also moving through the houses in your chart and so you will feel this influence in different ways.

I work closely with the moon's energy, using the phases of the moon to pace my month, plan and review my goals. As the moon waxes and wanes through her eight phases, so does the energy level and people's emotions. By working with the phases, I make sure I am taking time for myself to rest, avoiding overworking and exhausting myself.

In Aligned Action, my 3-month container, I teach women how to track the moon through the houses in their birth chart so that they can work with both the moon's energy and their personal energy, to get the results that they want and have more time for the things they love.

Personal Energy

Every day is not the same. There will be days when you feel ready to take on the world, and days when you just want to stay in bed. In today's society, we are led to believe that every day is the same and that you should work hard and with the same consistency every day. In reality, this just isn’t true, and it can lead to people feeling like they are broken, or that something is wrong with them.

Our hormones and our energy have an impact on how we feel every day. And we are also influenced by the people around us, and the stars and planets above us. If you spend a lot of time with happy, high-vibe people, then it will lift your spirits. And if you are more of an introvert, then you may find social occasions also drain you of energy.

And just like every day is not going to be the same for you, not every hour will be the same either. You might find that you function better, and have more energy, first thing in the morning. Maybe you are more of a night owl and find that you are the most productive in the evening.

Understanding your own energy levels allows you to live in harmony with them instead of always feeling like you are behind, exhausted or banging your head against a wall and getting nowhere.

In Aligned Action, I will teach you how to track your energy and then overlay this information with the moon, so that you can plan and predict your high-energy days and when you need to rest and recharge.

I hope you have found this week's blog helpful, the most important thing I’m trying to say here is to understand your OWN energy.
