Full Moon in Aries
On Thursday (17th October) at 12.26 pm (BST) we have the Hunters Full Moon in assertive Aries. Think about what you are giving to other people and what you are getting back in return.
This week’s blog will look at the energy around this Full Moon and how you can work with it.
This Full Moon is called the Hunters Full Moon because it follows the Harvest Full Moon, which is the Full Moon closest to the Autumn Equinox. This Full Moon is said to signal to hunters that it is time to prepare for the upcoming winter. As the fields were cleared under the previous Harvest Moon, it is easier to spot animals that have come out looking for scraps of food. What do you need to do to prepare for winter?
Full Moons mark the halfway point in a lunar cycle. This is a time to celebrate your progress and achievements, to practise forgiveness and to release anything still holding you back. If you look back to the New Moon in the same sign, 6 months ago, then you should have accomplished whatever you set out to do then. And if you haven't, then you should have a really good idea of why not.
The New Moon in Aries was in April, what goals did you set then? What has stopped you from achieving them? Are you lacking confidence somewhere? Full Moons are when we start to clear out the stuff we don’t need to create space for the things that we do want.
Not all Full Moon’s are the same. They are flavoured by the zodiac sign that the Moon is in at the time and influenced by the other planets. A Full Moon is always in the opposite sign as the Sun, giving us a tug-of-war between the energy of the two signs.
Under this Full Moon, we need to find a balance between our needs (Moon in Aries) and our most significant other's needs (Sun in Libra).
This Full Moon is likely to be overflowing with good feelings thanks to the positive influence of Jupiter. We can expect to feel a sense of joy and abundance, with higher than usual odds of an aha moment.
Jupiter is often called the lucky planet and expands whatever it touches. It is currently retrograde in Gemini, the sign of communication. This period of slowing down is an opportunity to strengthen our intuition and spiritual connection, along with some self-reflection. How do you take in information and learn? What are your thought processes like? How do you make decisions? Are you paying attention to what matters?
On the other hand, we also have Pluto squaring off to this Full Moon and bringing up dark emotions like deep rage or resentment, or feelings of betrayal. Full Moon’s are a time to find a balance between conflicting forces so see where these emotions are stopping you from feeling more joy.
Pluto, the planet of renewal and rebirth, is currently in Capricorn. Both Capricorn and Pluto have very strong-willed energies, they won't stop until they achieve their goal. While Pluto hangs out at the last degrees of Capricorn, we have the chance to restructure and transform our lives, to see where our past pain is impacting our future and where we are resisting change.
Mars is also coming along to this Full Moon party to warn us to slow down. Don’t allow yourself to be consumed by your emotions, one way or the other, when making decisions. The worst-case scenario here is that you do something you shouldn't, so don’t be rash and think before you act.
Mars is the planet of drive and determination and is currently in Cancer, the sign of home and family. Cancer energy is very protective in nature, so we will be feeling a strong desire to preserve and protect. As a water sign, Cancer can dampen the firey nature of Mars, so watch out for passive-aggressive tendencies and mood swings. As a cardinal sign, Cancer pushes for action, which works well with Mars.
Aries is one of the four cardinal signs, which mark the start of a new season when the Sun moves into them. These are the most goal-focused of the signs. They are active and restless, self-motivated and ambitious. Aries has themes around determination, assertiveness and confidence, making it an ideal Full Moon for looking at where you need to take more of a lead in your life. Where have you allowed others to make decisions for you? Have you taken a back seat in your own life?
As one of the three Fire element signs, Aries is energetic, enthusiastic and fearless. Have you been taking action on the things you said you want or are you waiting around for something to happen? These signs can also be destructive, inconsiderate and selfish, so during the Full Moon think about where you might be showing these less desirable traits.
Have you been holding yourself back? Or do you need to practise more patience? Have you been taking responsibility for your actions, or lack of?
When looking at what is holding you back that you need to release under the Aries Full Moon, we can use the themes and energy of this sign to help us. Here are some questions you can ask yourself to get the most from this energy.
What is stopping me from being more assertive?
What is stopping me from being more courageous?
Where am I being reckless?
Where do I need to handle myself better?
Where am I arguing for the sake of it?
What anger am I holding onto?
This Full Moon, don’t allow fear or anger to make your decisions. If you are feeling restless or irritable then doing physical activity can help to direct that energy into something more constructive. Think before you act and consider the impact it will have on others.
Moving forward, think about what has been stopping you from going after what you want, and how you can change that. Are you overcommitting your time to other people and projects? Do you need to take a step back to create the space and time you need for the projects that excite you? You can be more assertive without trampling all over other people. Remember to listen as well as speak. Full Moon’s are about give and take, finding the middle ground to move forward on.
