New Moon Eclipse in Aries
On Saturday, 29th March at 10.57 am (GMT), we have the New Moon Eclipse in instinctive Aries. As the first sign of the zodiac, this is an ideal New Moon to commit to working with the moon or to recommit if you are just going through the motions. This week’s blog will look at the energy around this New Moon and how you can work with it.
New Moons mark the start of a new lunar cycle. This is a time to set out intentions for the next 4 weeks, which will help us to achieve our goals. Generally, anything started under a New Moon should be completed by the Full Moon in the same sign. This gives us a 6-month container to work with. (The Full Moon in Aries will be on the 7th of October.) When making New Moon Wishes, you can go as big or as small as you like. If you make a big wish, you can break it down into smaller, manageable goals. This allows you to track your progress as you move through each lunar cycle.
This New Moon is a Partial Solar Eclipse. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes in front of the sun, and a partial solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes in front of the sun but the Sun, Moon and Earth are not perfectly lined up. This means only part of the Sun is covered, and in this case, we can expect to see the Sun in a crescent shape..
Eclipse season happens twice a year, and this one started with the Full Moon in Virgo on the 14th. Eclipse season is when the Universe changes gear. So if you have wandered off your path then you can expect the Universe to course correct for you now. This could well come in the form of a disaster. That is why it is important to remain positive, to look for the lesson and to know that everything is happening for you, not against you. When the dust has settled, and you look back, you will see how this was a good thing that created the space you needed in your life for something bigger and better to come in.
Eclipses happen on either the North or South Node. The Full Moon in Virgo was a South Node Eclipse, and this one is a North Node Eclipse. The South Node is our comfort zone, it’s where we have already been. Whereas the North Node is where we are going and what we have to work towards. The South Node Eclipse in Virgo asked us to let go of self-doubt, perfectionism and being overly critical with ourselves. Remember that you can’t move forward if you are still living in the past. This North Node Eclipse is drawing things to us, such as new opportunities or changes. In Aries, this will challenge our leadership and willingness to take action or take a risk. It’s time to put yourself first and think about what you want for a change.
Where have your self-doubt and perfectionism come from? Have you been trying to live up to someone else's expectations? Are you merely a passenger in your own life? It’s time to take charge and do what you want, not what everyone else has been telling you that you should want.
Not all New Moons are the same. They are flavoured by the zodiac sign that the Moon is in at the time and influenced by the other planets. A New Moon is always in the same sign as the Sun, giving us a double dose of the sign's energy to work with. This is why people work with this energy to set their goals.
Aries is one of the four cardinal signs which astrologically mark the start of a new season when the Sun moves into it. These are the more goal-focused signs, which make them ideal for setting quarterly goals. Aries has themes around new beginnings, initiating and leadership, making it the ideal New Moon to take the lead in your life and set goals that you are excited and passionate about. Aries New Moon Wishes need to come from the heart. These should be things that you want and care about. If it feels like something you should do, then don’t bother.
As one of the three Fire element signs, Aries is energetic, daring, courageous, enthusiastic and spontaneous. The fire signs are all about taking action, and Aries is a risk taker. This is the warrior of the zodiac and they are both childlike and natural leaders. This New Moon is a good time to be more assertive in your life. To be independent and confident. To have the unwavering confidence of a toddler, that Aries belief that you can do anything and achieve your goals.
When setting your Aries New Moon intentions, we can use the themes and energy of this sign to help us. Here are some questions you can ask yourself to get the most from this energy.
What are my goals for the next 6 months?
Where do I need to be braver?
Where do I need to concentrate my energy?
How can I recharge my batteries?
Where should I take a risk?
Where do I need to take the lead?
There are also some practical ways that you can work with this New Moon. As an active fire sign, starting a new exercise or fitness program to get your body moving works well. If you have been putting something off, then the determined and excited energy of Aries is ideal for finally starting, or finishing something. If you have been playing small recently then follow Aries's lead and add some spontaneity into your life. If you have been a little reckless, then practising more patience is also a good way to work with the energy. Also, be mindful of your stress levels and make sure you are taking time to have more fun and aren’t just busy working all the time.
It does look rather crowded in the sky for this New Moon Eclipse, but there are only three planets having any real impact. The first one is Mercury, which is currently retrograde in Aries. You can read more about that and what it means for you in this blog post.
Mercury Retrograde is a time to slow down, to review and reflect on how things are going, to research the things you want to change and improve in your life, and to re-do anything that needs a second look. In Aries, this is looking at how you make decisions, how you decide when to take risks and slowing down. Aries is always in such a rush to get things moving that they don’t always think them through fully first.
With this New Moon, Mercury is going to bring clear thinking, clear communication, and maybe even a stroke of genius or a promising new idea. This would be a good time to initiate a key conversation.
Neptune, the planet of inspiration, is currently in dreamy Pisces, amplifying our intuition, creativity and spirituality. For this New Moon, they are warning us against unrealistic wishes. Don’t start something you don’t believe in as it will have fizzled out and been forgotten by the full moon.
Finally, we have Pluto, the planet of transformation, over in Aquarius having us rethink how our friendships and communities work. This New Moon, real change is possible which can have a real and permanent impact. What change do you want to see?
