On Friday the 14th of March at 6.54 am (GMT) we have the Full Moon Eclipse in practical Virgo. It's time to look at where you need to adapt and how you support your own growth and self-improvement. This week’s blog will look at the energy around this Full Moon, how you can work with it, and where it will fall in your chart.

March’s Full Moon is traditionally called the Full Worm Moon. It was originally thought that this was because earthworms would appear at this time for the birds to eat. Something associated with the start of Spring. It is now thought to refer to beetle larvae which emerge from the thawing bark of trees. Either way, March’s Full Worm Moon tells us that Spring is on its way!!

Other names for this month's Full Moon also relate to the transition from Winter to Spring either by referring to animals that would start to reappear or other signs of Spring. The Eagle Moon, the Goose Moon or Crow Comes Back Moon are of course all animal-related. The Sugar Moon refers to the sap of sugar maples that starts to flow now. The Wind Strong Moon is associated with the strong windy days at this time of year, while the Sore Eyes Moon is connected to the blinding rays of sunshine when it reflects on the melting snow.

This Full Moon is also a total lunar eclipse, known as a Blood Moon because of the reddish shadow. The Sun, Moon and Earth will all line up in such a way that the Earth will be between the Sun and the Moon, causing a reddish shadow to be cast on the Moon. You can read more about Lunar Eclipses here.

Eclipses occur on either the North or South Node (which is essentially a mathematical point of the moon's orbit). This eclipse is on the South Node and so it’s about releasing our past and looking at where we have been. Looking at the themes associated with Virgo, this could be something related to your health, routines or even your self-esteem. Remember that anything that ends now was meant to and is creating space for something better to come in.

Full Moons mark the halfway point in a lunar cycle. This is a time to celebrate your progress and achievements, to practise forgiveness and to release anything still holding you back. If you look back to the New Moon in the same sign, 6 months ago, then you should have accomplished whatever you set out to do then. And if you haven't, then you should have a really good idea of why not.

The New Moon in Virgo was in September, what goals did you set then? Have you let perfectionism stop you from taking action on them? Waiting for the perfect time to start? Or have you lacked confidence and been too self-conscious to act? Have you put everyone else's needs before your own? Full Moons are when we start to clear out the stuff we don’t need to create space for the things that we do want.

Not all Full Moon’s are the same. They are flavoured by the zodiac sign that the Moon is in at the time and influenced by the other planets. A Full Moon is always in the opposite sign as the Sun, giving us a tug-of-war between the energy of the two signs.

Under this Full Moon, we need to find a balance between allowing ourselves to dream (Sun in Pisces) and being down to earth (Moon in Virgo). Have you been letting your practical day-to-day get in the way of following your dreams?

There is a lot going on during this Full Moon Eclipse!! The Sun, Saturn and Neptune are having their own party over in dreamy Pisces. The great Saturn and Neptune stand-off won’t be until late August when these two planets meet in Aries, but they are still making their presence known for this eclipse. Saturn would like us to look back at how far we have come and give ourselves a well-earned pat on the back, while Neptune wants us to pay attention to spiritually significant dreams and symbolic messages.

Not wanting to be left out of the action, Mars is telling us to slow down and not do something we might regret later. While Mars is in Cancer, we have that push-pull of wanting to do all the things and wanting to stay home, while feeling trapped and restless when we do so.

Uranus is also around to bring things to an exciting but unexpected conclusion. This will be a time for happy endings.

We should also be mindful of Pluto this Full Moon Eclipse as dark emotions, deep rage, resentment, and feelings of betrayal might come up. If they do, ask yourself what is behind them and what you can do to change the situation causing them.

Virgo is one of the four mutable signs, which bridge the gap between the fixed signs and the start of the next season and cardinal signs. These are the most flexible signs and they know that change is coming, making them more open-minded. Virgo has themes around health, habits and routines, making it an ideal Full Moon for looking at changes you need to make to your day-to-day to support yourself better.

As one of the three Earth element signs, Virgo is analytical, practical, organised, hardworking and adaptable. This is the sign that likes to dot the i’s, cross the t’s and make sure all their ducks are in a row. Virgo can be a perfectionist and over-critical, but they also love to be of service to others.

When looking at what is holding you back that you need to release under the Virgo Full Moon, we can use the themes and energy of this sign to help us. Here are some questions you can ask yourself to get the most from this energy.

  1. Where do I need to heal?

  2. What is stopping me from being healthier?

  3. How can I ground myself and still move forward?

  4. Where am I being too critical?

  5. Where am I inflexible?

  6. What will support my self-improvement?

With this Full Moon also being on the South Node, look back at where these things might have shown up for you in the past. This will be a powerful time for transformation and to make lasting changes. And as it is an eclipse, you might find that you are forced to make these changes whether you are ready or not. It’s time to let go of perfectionism, mistakes are how you grow and learn.
