New Moon In Capricorn
On Thursday (11th January) at 11.57 am (GMT) we have the first New Moon of the year in disciplined Capricorn. This week’s blog will look at the energy around this New Moon and how you can work with it.
New Moons mark the start of a new lunar cycle. This is a time to set out intentions for the next 4 weeks, which will help us to achieve our goals. Generally, anything started under a New Moon should be completed by the Full Moon in the same sign. This gives us a 6-month container to work with. When making New Moon Wishes, you can go as big or as small as you like. If you make a big wish, you can break it down into smaller, manageable goals. This allows you to track your progress as we move through each lunar cycle.
Not all New Moon’s are the same. They are flavoured by the zodiac sign that the Moon is in at the time and influenced by the other planets. A New Moon is always in the same sign as the Sun, giving us a double dose of the sign's energy to work with. This is why people work with this energy to set their goals.
This New Moon in Capricorn is also joined by Pluto, a planet of change and transformation. Pluto can help us bring our deepest desires to the surface, and while it is in Capricorn it is asking you what is important to you. It’s time to find your purpose. With the New Moon and Pluto on the same side, this is your opportunity for profound transformation. Real change is possible under this New Moon and it can have a very real and permanent impact on your life.
Uranus is also adding its positive influence to this New Moon, asking you to break out of your old regular routines and start experimenting. We can expect the unexpected with this New Moon, it’s time to shake things up and make some changes. Something exciting is happening if you are willing to open the door and let it in.
Not wanting to be left out, Neptune is gatecrashing this party and warning us about setting unrealistic wishes. If you are feeling confused or emotionally overwhelmed during this New Moon then you have Neptune to thank for that!! Don’t start something that you don’t believe in under this New Moon or it will have fizzled out and be forgotten by the Full Moon.
It’s also worth noting that Mars is also currently moving through Capricorn. Mars is the planet of drive and determination and while it is in Capricorn it is time to create some stability and form a strategy. This energy works best when it is focused on one thing. So pick one goal, the one that matters most to you, and focus solely on that for the next six weeks. You will be amazed at how much progress you can make.
We can get further help during this New Moon through Mercury and Venus, who are both currently in Sagittarius. This is the sign of expansion and freedom, fun and adventure. Mercury is the planet of communication and Venus is the planet of love, desire and abundance. We can express ourselves with more excitement and enthusiasm while having an increased desire for adventure. Take some risks, try something new, feel free, and do more of what lights you up.
Capricorn is one of the four cardinal signs, which mark the astrological start of a new season when the Sun moves into them. These are the most goal-focused signs and so I like to use them to plan each quarter. Capricorn has themes around ambition, career and achievement, making it the ideal New Moon to set your goals for the year.
As one of the three Earth element signs, Capricorn is grounded, focused, stable, practical and able to keep moving forward. This is the mountain goat of the zodiac and they are sure-footed, unwavering and always reach their destination. The organised and disciplined Capricorn approach can be applied to help you achieve long-term success.
When setting your Capricorn New Moon intentions, we can use the themes and energy of this sign to help us. Here are some questions you can ask yourself to get the most from this energy.
What are my ambitions and goals for the year ahead?
Where am I being stubborn?
What do I need to prioritise?
Where do I need to set boundaries?
How can I achieve my goals?
Where do I need to assert my authority?
There are also some practical ways that you can work with this New Moon. Make sure that your finances are up to date and review your home security for instance. As the most ambitious sign of the zodiac, this would also be a good time to start a new course of study or to update your CV and career plan. You might also want to create a structured plan for the next 6 months, start a new project and get outside more. Establishing new routines and structures now will help you gain that long-term stability and security we all crave.
