On Thursday (6th June) at 1.37 0m (BST) we have the New Moon in curious Gemini. We set our big and exciting goals under the Aries New Moon, then the Taurus New Moon came along to help us find practical ways to achieve them, and now we have the versatile Gemini New Moon to help us adjust our course and learn new skills as needed. This week’s blog will look at the energy around this New Moon and how you can work with it.

New Moons mark the start of a new lunar cycle. This is a time to set our intentions for the next 4 weeks, which will help us to achieve our goals. Generally, anything started under a New Moon should be completed by the Full Moon in the same sign. This gives us a 6-month container to work with. (The Full Moon in Gemini is on the 15th of December) When making New Moon Wishes, you can go as big or as small as you like. If you make a big wish, you can break it down into smaller, manageable goals. This allows you to track your progress as we move through each lunar cycle.

Not all New Moon’s are the same. They are flavoured by the zodiac sign that the Moon is in at the time and influenced by the other planets. A New Moon is always in the same sign as the Sun, giving us a double dose of the sign's energy to work with. This is why people work with this energy to set their goals.

Gemini is one of the four mutable signs, which bridge the gap between the fixed signs and the start of the next season. These are the more flexible and resourceful signs which make them ideal for making changes to your plan. Gemini has themes around communication, ideas and studiousness, making it the ideal New Moon to learn and develop the skills needed to achieve your goals and change your plan if you need to. While the Taurus New Moon was all about putting actions behind your words, the Gemini New Moon is here to help you make changes to keep moving forward.

As one of the three Air element signs, Gemini is expressive, responsive, friendly, intelligent and light-hearted. The air signs are the most social and full of ideas. This can make Gemini quite a flighty energy, bouncing from one idea to the next. This is the jack-of-all-trades of the zodiac and they can become easily distracted by the next great idea. This New Moon is a good time to find new ways to stave off boredom. To fall down a rabbit hole of new exploration. To finally pick up those books you have been meaning to read.

When setting your Gemini New Moon intentions, we can use the themes and energy of this sign to help us. Here are some questions you can ask yourself to get the most from this energy.

  1. What are my goals for the next 6 months?

  2. Where do I need to adapt to change?

  3. Where do I need to be more consistent?

  4. Am I speaking my truth?

  5. What stops me from getting bored?

  6. What practical changes do I need to make?

There are also some practical ways to work with this New Moon. You could sort out your paperwork and go through emails. Finish something you have already started or learn something new. If you need to increase your focus then practicing meditation would be great. Learning to listen more and scheduling more fun things in your life are also great ways to work with the energy.

Venus is right next to the Sun and New Moon in Gemini, encouraging our relationships to grow. Reach out to other people, find new ways to have fun and focus on pleasure, cooperation and comfort. While Venus is in Gemini, it will be a time for us to be chatty and spontaneous. We can tease and stimulate our senses and communicate our desires, feelings, and awesomeness to others. When the Sun meets Venus here it will call us to be seen for our talents.

Mercury and Jupiter are also in Gemini, giving us even more of that expressive and versatile Gemini energy. The planet of communication, Mercury, is right at home in the sign of communication. This will help us to think and communicate with clarity. While Jupiter rules expansion and growth, and in Gemini, this will show us new ways to connect with people.

We do need to be mindful of the clash between this New Moon and Saturn which could bring us back down to earth and leave us feeling lonely, depressed or just pessimistic. On the other hand, Saturn’s influence here will be useful for knuckling down to a significant project and setting serious long-term goals. Saturn is a powerful force, and while it is moving through Pisces, it can cause feelings of sadness, loneliness, and insecurity. But this can also be a time of great growth, transformation, and self-awareness, where we can identify and address our deepest fears.
