On Wednesday (18th September) at 3.34 am (BST) we have the Harvest Full Moon in emotional Pisces. Sitting inside your comfort zone isn’t going to help you move forward. You don’t need to take a giant leap of faith, small steps will get you there. You just need to remove the shackles and open yourself up to the possibility of something amazing happening.

This week’s blog will look at the energy around this Full Moon and how you can work with it.

This Full Moon is called the Harvest Full Moon because it is the closest one to the Autumn Equinox. With the Moon rising around the same time that the Sun is setting, this Full Moon gave farmers additional light to harvest in, hence the name. Every three years, the Harvest Moon occurs in October, and the September Moon is called the Corn Moon after the corn that is harvested at this time of year.

Full Moons mark the halfway point in a lunar cycle. This is a time to celebrate your progress and achievements, to practise forgiveness and to release anything still holding you back. If you look back to the New Moon in the same sign, 6 months ago, then you should have accomplished whatever you set out to do then. And if you haven't, then you should have a really good idea of why not.

The New Moon in Pisces was in March, what goals did you set then? What has stopped you from achieving them? Have you let unrealistic expectations hold you back? Full Moons are when we start to clear out the stuff we don’t need to create space for the things that we do want.

This Full Moon also happens to be the start of eclipse season. This happens twice a year and contains 2 or 3 eclipses each time. As this is a Full Moon, it is a lunar eclipse. This occurs when the Earth passes between the Sun and the Moon, and the Earth’s shadow dims the Full Moon.

As the Sun, Moon and Earth will not line up perfectly, the Moon will only pass through part of the Earth’s shadow. This gives the appearance of the shadow growing and shrinking, while never fully covering the Moon and is called a partial lunar eclipse.

Eclipses are when the Universe changes gears, this is a change of speed which will enhance whatever is going on. If you have wandered off your path then you can expect the Universe to course correct for you now. This could well come in the form of a disaster. It is important to remain positive, to look for the lesson and to know that everything is happening for you, not to you.

This is also a North Node Eclipse, (the point where the moon's orbit crosses the Sun's path) which is a time to take things in and follow guidance. In Pisces, this is a time to connect with your own inner guidance, listen to your intuition and break down the things stopping you from moving from where you are now to where you want to be.

Not all Full Moon’s are the same. They are flavoured by the zodiac sign that the Moon is in at the time and influenced by the other planets. A Full Moon is always in the opposite sign as the Sun, giving us a tug-of-war between the energy of the two signs.

Under this Full Moon, we need to find a balance between our need for inner peace (Moon in Pisces) and all our duties (Sun in Virgo).

We have four big planets affecting this Full Moon. The first is a harmonising aspect with Uranus that will open up new possibilities for growth. Something could come to an exciting but unexpected conclusion. Watch out for happy endings. Let go of your expectations and allow the universe to surprise you with something better than you could have imagined.

Uranus, the planet of freedom and originality, is currently retrograde in Taurus. This is an invitation for integration, reflection, and tuning into our intuition. In Taurus, the sign that seeks comfort and pleasure in life, security and what we place value on, this will be a time to reflect on your relationship with finances, how you feel secure, what freedom means to you, and where is your comfort zone.

We also have Neptune right next to this Full Moon, so make sure you pay attention to any spiritually significant dreams or symbolic messages. We can enjoy the sense of connection and oneness if we have our hearts open to universal love.

Neptune is the planet of inspiration, dreams and spirituality, and is very at home in Pisces. When Neptune is in retrograde, as it is now, it lands us squarely in reality. We need to reflect, reorient, rewrite, and reorganise our understanding of reality and what we want from life. As Neptune moves through the last degrees of Pisces, we are invited to clear out the patterns and fears within us that cause us to turn away from our lives and miss the things that are offered to us. We need to end unhealthy ways, habits and routines. And the Full Moon is the perfect time to do this.

We also have Jupiter squaring up to this Full Moon. This is the planet that brings more, this could be good things but possibly too much of the good things. Jupiter is here to show you where you may have gone too far.

Jupiter is often called the lucky planet and expands whatever it touches. In Gemini, the sign of communication, we need to be looking at how well we are listening to others and what we are saying to them. Have you been friendly and sincere? Or have you taken a joke too far? How does the other person feel?

Finally, we have Pluto, the planet that doesn’t mess around, and when its influence is felt under a Full Moon profound transformation is possible. But it is unlikely to be appealing or in an easy form because of the conflicting aspect here. This could bring up dark emotions, deep rage, resentment, and feelings of betrayal.

Pluto, the planet of renewal and rebirth, is currently in Capricorn. Both Capricorn and Pluto have very strong-willed energies, they won't stop until they achieve their goal. This is a time to think about power. What do you have power over? What has power over you? And where is a new way of thinking needed?

Pisces is one of the four mutable signs, which bridge the gap between the fixed, stubborn signs, and the start of a new season. These are the most resourceful and flexible of the signs. They can embrace the ebb and flow of life and adjust to new circumstances. Pisces has themes around dreams, spirituality and instincts, making it an ideal Full Moon for looking at where you haven’t trusted yourself. Where have you been playing the victim instead of taking responsibility? Or allowing indecisiveness to stop you from taking action?

As one of the three Water element signs, Pisces is imaginative, sentimental and intuitive. These signs feel everything deeply so during the Full Moon it may be helpful to lean in the Sun in Virgo energy and try some grounding and centering practises. Sometimes a dash of logic can help.

Are you listening to your inner guidance? Do you pay attention to those gut feelings you get or just ignore them? Pisces will often want to run away and escape rather than face reality, where has that shown up for you lately?

When looking at what is holding you back that you need to release under the Pisces Full Moon, we can use the themes and energy of this sign to help us. Here are some questions you can ask yourself to get the most from this energy.

  1. Where am I deluding myself?

  2. Where am I giving too much?

  3. How can I dissolve depression?

  4. Where am I playing the victim?

  5. Why do I not trust myself?

  6. Where am I indecisive?

This Full Moon is a powerful time to face your fears and connect with your intuition. As the last sign of the zodiac, the Full Moon in Pisces is great for closing doors and finishing projects. With this also being the start of eclipse season, get really honest with yourself about why you haven’t been making progress on your goals, and where you might be pointing the finger instead of taking personal responsibility. And if you do find yourself up a creek without a paddle, then take the time to enjoy the solitude, appreciate the beauty around you, and to form a plan of future action. It’s nearly always, not as bad as you think it is. And when you look back, you will see it for the blessing it was.
