September’s Full Moon takes place on Friday 29th September at 10.57am in the fiery sign of Aries. In this week’s blog, I will talk you through a Full Moon Ceremony and how to work with the Full Moon in Aries.

As this Full Moon is a week after the Autumn Equinox it is called the Harvest Moon. This is the time of year when the main harvest is coming to an end and we celebrate and give thanks for all the food we have. Traditionally, this would be a time when we started to store food for the winter.

The Autumn Equinox was on Saturday 23rd September and was a day of balance when the day and night were of equal length. Within the Moon’s Lunar Cycle, the Autumn Equinox has the same energy as the Third Quarter Moon. It’s time to look at how things have been going over the year, to harvest and gather everything we need for the Winter, and to start to slow down and turn inwards.

Full Moon’s are a celebration. This is the high point of the lunar cycle when the moon is at her biggest and brightest. What are you celebrating? How much progress have you made on your dreams, goals and wishes? Not just in this cycle, but over the year?

The moon rules our emotions, and during the Full Moon, they are pulled to the surface allowing us to process them more easily. The moon shines a light on our deepest and darkest parts, bringing them into focus. What are the stories that you are telling yourself that are preventing you from reaching your dreams, goals and wishes? Are they actually true?

I follow a 4-step process in my Full Moon Ceremonies. The first step is to celebrate. Even if you haven’t achieved your goals yet, I bet you have made progress. Remember that once you were a baby who couldn’t walk or talk, and look at you now!! There is always something to celebrate, some milestone you have reached, something new that you dared to try.

The second step is to forgive. Write down a list of all the people you are going to forgive. Maybe your significant other left their dirty dishes in the sink again. Maybe you argued with a friend. Did you push yourself too hard or berate yourself for failing? Forgiving yourself for not being perfect is important, you are only human after all. And forgiving others isn’t about saying that what they did is okay or that they were right. Forgiveness isn’t about the other person, it’s about you.

The third step is to release all the stuff you just don’t need anymore. Again, write this down under your forgiveness list. What are the stories you have been telling yourself that just aren’t true? Do think that you are too lazy to ever get fit and healthy? Do you not have the right qualifications to launch that business idea? Are you not confident enough to start dating again? When you think about your dreams and your goals, what are you telling yourself that stops you from going after them? You can also use the energy of each Full Moon for ideas on what to release here.

Once you have finished your list, once you have poured all that emotion out onto the page, safely burn the page (outside, over a sink or in a heatproof container). As the page burns, you are releasing everything that you don’t need back into the universe. Don’t you feel so much lighter now?

The final step is to fill that space you just created within yourself with love, joy and gratitude. Who are you grateful for in your life? What are you grateful for? Who makes you feel loved, safe, happy and supported? What brings you joy?

When working with the Full Moon we can look at the sign that the Moon is in to guide us. With this Full Moon, that sign is Aries. Here are some questions to ask yourself that use the traits and energy of Aries;

  1. What is stopping me from being more assertive?

  2. What is stopping me from being more courageous?

  3. Where I am being reckless?

  4. Where do I need to handle myself better?

  5. Where am I arguing for the sake of it?

  6. What anger am I holding onto?

With the Sun in Libra, the sign associated with our most important relationships, and the Moon in the opposite sign of Aries, this Full Moon is about finding balance between meeting your own needs, and the needs of the most important people in your life.
